Review by Dr. Royce Clemens
“As great as you are, man, you’ll never be greater than yourself.”
-Bob Dylan
On this day, August 31, 2007, a vicious madman is finally coming home, to unleash his own brand of havoc upon an unsuspecting private populace.
I am speaking, of course, about Karl Rove…Oh, and the Rob Zombie remake of Halloween came out today. I don’t know if you guys heard about that.
And the results are very good indeed. Rob Zombie’s Halloween did three things that I thought were at best improbable and at worst, impossible… (more…)

David Morwick wrote, directed, edited, produced and acting in the recently released film Little Erin Merryweather (read our review). Little Erin Merryweather is a very different kind of horror film, combining a slasher storyline with a fairy tale feel. It was made independently and impressed us with its different approach to the slasher subgenre.
Fatally Yours was lucky enough to have the opportunity to chat with David about himself and this wonderful and unique horror film he created.
Fatally Yours: David, thank you so much for this interview opportunity! I enjoyed Little Erin Merryweather very much! As I understand, this was your first feature film. Beforehand you were most well-known for your modeling, even though you are a classically trained actor. What made you want to switch to filmmaking? (more…)

Review by the Film Fiend
Siamese twins, simply put, freak me out. It doesn’t matter if they’re connected at the hip or the head or the hiney; my skin starts to crawl almost immediately after laying my lazy eyes upon them. I know this is a very un-PC statement to make in this day and age, but it’s also the truth. Heaven forbid I speak my mind freely without some shady human rights organization desperately chasing me through narrow Hong Kong alleyways in order to label me as a cruel and unusual movie-watching bastard who has trouble taking the feelings of others into consideration. If not for my formidable wushu skills, no telling what, exactly, they would have done to me.
My complete and utter aversion to conjoined twins obviously played a huge role in my thorough enjoyment of Thai directors Banjong Pisanthanakun and Parkpoom Wongpoom’s terrifying 2007 horror flick Alone (aka Faet), their stunning follow-up to 2004’s supernatural masterpiece Shutter. It’s one of the few motion pictures in recent memory that managed to snake its way under my overly desensitized skin, causing more than a few girlish shrieks to slip from my lips over the course of its easy, breezy 90 shock-stuffed minutes. Are you of the belief that genuine terror doesn’t exist anywhere within the genre? Think again, my friend.
Thailand, apparently, knows how to do it right. (more…)

Review by Theron Neel
I don’t know if you’re aware of it, but there’s a horror revolution going on. As it was 20 years ago with pornography, the video camera is radically changing the playing field in the world of horror movies today. Go to your neighborhood Best Buy and look at the horror DVD shelf. I bet you’ll see plenty of low-budget, Do It Yourself digital video horror flicks right beside those by Wes Craven and Eli Roth.
The question is: Are these DIY horror flicks any good? Well, of course, it depends on the film. I’ve seen good ones and bad ones. It all boils down to the filmmaker, his script, and his actors—just as it does with any mainstream horror director.
Made by filmmaker David Quitmeyer, Tales from the Carnal Morgue (Volume One) is a collection of three short digital video horror flicks. Is Tales From the Carnal Morgue any good? Well, that’s a good question. As with any anthology, it depends on the particular short film you’re watching. (more…)

Review by the Angry Princess
Usually when the screener list of DVDs comes in and we all place our bids on who wants to review what, I always seem to pick the weird ones- well not this time! Book Of Lore was right up my alley.
Rick’s girlfriend Rachael is found dead and no ones seems to have a clue of what happened, even Sherriff Barlow is speechless. Rick decides to take matters into his own hands and asks a couple of friends to help him find out what the hell is going on. The town of Latonsville is in a panic with the thought of a killer on the loose.
Jason, whose mother is a Jesus fanatic, finds and old notebook titled the Book of Lore under his dead brother Darren’s bed and shows the guys. The book is filled with the town’s seediest secrets and they come across a drawing that depicts the exact way Rick’s girlfriend was killed. Since Jason has a horrible time getting out of the house because of his holy roller mother, the majority of the search is done by Evan and Rick. Evan is a trip with a buzzer on his bike to make sure all of his pizza’s are delivered in 20 minutes or less.
When reading the Book of Lore they learn of some of the town’s sordid past and it also gives hints of who the next victim would be and how they will die. This book was written by The Devils Left Hand, a killer from the town’s past who took children right from their houses at night. Jason explains to Rick that his brother Darren was once obsessed with the Book Of Lore and took it with him everywhere, never was it out of his sight or grip. Could the killer be Jason’s brother, or has The Devil’s Left Hand returned to finish what he started years before?
You never know what you are getting yourself into when watching independent films. They can be very painful to watch because of boredom or lack of substance but not the Book Of Lore. It had a little bit of everything in it from folklore to murder. It was great watching this whole clever mystery unfold the old fashioned way with suspense and good old guessing at who the killer really was. This movie is a great watch, Chris Lamartina did an excellent job!
So curl up in your favorite chair with a blanket and some popcorn to munch on while you take my word for it and watch this very entertaining story about a small town’s fate. Will they stop the madness before it’s too late? This movie will keep you interested throughout it’s entire unraveling of the truth and will tempt you into wanting to tell Jason’s evangelist mom to put a sock in it already. This flick is something you absolutely need to put at the top of your things to do list.

Warner Bros. has tapped Zack Snyder to direct a redo of The Illustrated Man, based on the 1951 collection by Ray Bradbury.
The helmer, busy prepping Watchmen (based on the Alan Moore legendary comic series) for the studio. Watchmen scribe Alex Tse will tackle the screenplay.
The collection, first published in 1951, is narrated by a mysterious man with living tattoos that predict the future. Rod Steiger starred in the title role for the 1969 bigscreen adaptation, distributed by Warner Bros.-Seven Arts; Claire Bloom co-starred.
Snyder and his wife (his production partner) signed a first-look deal with the studio in the wake of his success with 300, which was based on Frank Millers amazing comic book.
It kicks ass to see these great works getting the attention they deserve.

Variety reports Dimension Films has inked a two-picture deal with writer-director Rob Zombie. Andy Gould, Zombie’s longtime manager and producing partner, has boarded both projects as producer.
Pact comes as Dimension and distrib partner MGM prepare to release Zombie’s Halloween nationwide this weekend. Per the terms of the two-pic deal, Zombie will write and direct both titles, although Dimension didn’t release any further details about the projects, including whether they would be horror films.
Zombie also directed the upcoming animated pic The Haunted World of El Superbeasto, featuring Paul Giamatti in the lead voice role. He also helmed one of the fake trailers, Werewolf Women of the S.S., featuring Nicolas Cage, that was part of Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez’s Grindhouse.
