Explore the deepest, darkest depths of terror with Buried Alive, the latest modern monster-piece to be brought to life on DVD under the Dimension Extreme label from Genius Products and The Weinstein Company. Directed by Robert Kurtzman (Wishmaster), the legendary special make-up effects artist, and starring Tobin Bell – the depraved Jigsaw killer in the Saw trilogy – BURIED ALIVE also features a cast of hot young victims, including newcomers Leah Rachel, Erin Lokitz and Steve Sandvoss. Vacationing far from civilization, a group of college students soon learns that an absence of supervision also means that there is no one around to hear their desperate cries for help. They are on their own to survive and are hunted by a haunting sadistic spirit that kills with malevolent glee. Read on for the cover art and new stills!

David Reynolds has been tapped to write Nightmare Academy, Universal’s adaptation of the kid-lit series by Dean Lorey. Stephen Sommers and Bob Ducsay are producing, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The trilogy, the first book of which was published in August by HarperCollins, is set in an academy that trains young adults who are responsible for policing nightmares. Last year, Universal bought the rights to the trilogy for high-six figures. Reynolds made a name for himself in the animation field, with credits including “A Bug’s Life” and “Chicken Little.” He shared an Oscar nomination with Andrew Stanton and Bob Peterson for writing “Finding Nemo” and worked on “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty” for Fox.

I don’t want to take anything away from the boys over at AICN, but I’m pretty sure this was mentioned before. Either way they announced today – via an anonymous source – that Tim Burton will be bringing his original black and white short Frankenweenie to the big screen as a feature length stop-motion film. Frankenweenie (1984) is one of Tim Burton’s earlier films, a parody of the 1931 film Frankenstein based on Mary Shelley’s book of the same name. You can check out a bunch of stills from Burton’s original film inside.

BC found a clip of Paris Hilton’s appearance on the (atrocious) Late Show with David Letterman where she talks a bit about her role in Darren Lynn Bousman’s horror rock opera, Repo! The Genetic Opera, which is currently lensing in Toronto, Canada. Head on over to BDTV to watch the clip (around 6:30) and watch for a report from set sometime soon. “Repo!” focuses on a cruel entrepreneur who creates genetically perfect organs that everybody needs in 2056, and who is content to send in a repo man if the recipient can’t make payments.

The small horror film Hatchet had a decent theatrical run, but Anchor Bay decided to pull it from the big screen so they could release the DVD in time for Christmas. Director Adam Green had this to say on the official Hatchet Message Board:
“So get your Xmas stockings ready for what will be the best present a horror fan can get this Christmas.Oh- and to speak about HATCHET’s theatrical run in the U.S.- we had a great run. Ultimately however, Anchor Bay was faced with a choice. Either they continue to tour prints around the country- or they pull the film from theaters in order to have the official 90 days needed between theatrical and DVD release. Had it been a 3,000 screen release raking in millions- it may have been worth it to not have the DVD out in time for the holidays- but for a movie this small, I agree that the sooner we can make it available for everyone the better. So that means…Victor Crowley will be coming home in time for Christmas- unrated and fucking LOADED with special features. An official announcement, street date, and details of what you’ll get on the DVD is all coming in just a matter of days. So stay tuned to the various horror sites and the official HATCHET website for details. And remember, nothing says “Merry Christmas” like a hot chick getting her mouth sanded out in your stocking.
So get your Xmas stockings ready for what will be the best present a horror fan can get this Christmas.”
We will keep you posted as soon as we get word on the official release date.

Today the official website for Cloverfield – the still untitled JJ Abrams film – has been updated with a new image and some clues. If you head to the site you’ll see an image of a Japanese chef, just take your mouse and move it really quickly left and right and the image will flip over revealing some writing in Japanese. If you know what it says, leave a comment below! The film is a giant monster movie (a parasite) shown on cheap cameras from regular people’s perspective. A few weeks ago we were informed that the film might be titled “WRECK” and are still awaiting confirmation.
