No Preacher for HBO

The network who brought us Todd Mcfarlane’s very dark, Spawn and the violent Rome, has passed on turning Garth Ennis’ comic book, Preacher into a one-hour series because it is too dark and violent.
Mark Steven Johnson (Daredevil, Ghost Rider) told Comics Continuum:
“We were budgeting and everything and it was getting really close to going, but the new head of HBO felt it was just too dark and too violent and too controversial. Which, of course, is kind of the point!”
HBO offered Johnson a chance to tone down the series but thankfully he declined. If they’re not going to do it right then I rather them not make it at all.

Johnson said: “It was a very faithful adaptation of the first few books, nearly word for word. They offered me the chance to redevelop it but I refused. I’ve learned my lesson on that front and I won’t do it again. So I’m afraid it’s dead at HBO.”
There is still a chance that the Preacher may make it to the big screen, and hopefully if it does, it doesn’t turn out like the watered down version of Constantine.
