A new one sheet for the Australian horror film Dying Breed (new trailer) has been rejected as too gruesome to hang on bus shelters, according to The Daily Telegraph. Starring Nathan Phillips (Wolf Creek) and Leigh Whannell (Saw), the thriller was inspired by cannibal convict Alexander Pearce – known as The Pieman because he baked pies for a living in Ireland prior to being deported to a penal colony in Tasmania. The inspiration shines through in the poster, which can be viewed by reading on.

A man who needs no introduction to the horror genre, Guillermo del Toro is teaming up with crime author Chuck Hogan to release a trilogy of vampire novels. Yeah novels not movies. The series is called The Strain, in a statement to the AP the director said:
“The idea is epic in scope. The trilogy advances in unexpected ways and each book contains unique and surprising revelations about the history, physiology and lore of the vampiric race, tracing its roots all the way back to its Old Testament origins.”
Sounds pretty interesting and this may help restore some interest in the horror novel world. Would you read a book co-written by Guillermo del Toro?

Edgar Ramirez (Vantage Point, “The Bourne Ultimatum) is set to topline a new horror thriller entitled VIENE EL JAGUAR. In the film he’ll play a tortured ex-priest trailing an exorcist in the Colombian jungle (now that’s interesting!). Carlos Moreno will direct from a screenplay that he co-wrote with Alonso Torres. “Jaguar” is based on the recent revelation that a group of under-age Colombian para-militaries, Los Cruzados, painted their nails black, practiced Satanic rites and ate human flesh to exorcize the spirits of villagers they had killed, Moreno explained at Spain’s San Sebastian Film Festival on Thursday.
