A Triple Shot of SHHH!

Posted by Tedakin on October 31, 2011

Missing your weekly dosage of the Spooky Hour Horror Hour? We hear ya! October has been a crazy month and harder for us than ever to get everything done. However, as a means of catching up and getting back on track, we have three new episodes for you right here!

Cool Sausage sees buckets of poo and pee in "The Human Centipede 2" but is keeping it all to himself. Raychul gives us an in-depth review of Universal Halloween Horror Nights in Orlando. We watch "American Horror Story" and agree that it's batshit bizarre. Ted thinks "The Walking Dead's" Shane is the most crapped on character on TV and that "Scre4m" isn't half bad. Plus, Curtis and Dylan call in, and Sub-Z reflects upon his career as a master in the underground Kumate tournament, all on SHHH!

"The Walking Dead" is back and Ted and Sub-Z think it's better than ever. DerrickH and Raychul on the other hand? We fully break down the premiere. Ted and Sub-Z get duped into buying "Dead Rising 2" again and aren't happy about it. We question the morals of Dexter. We all agree that "American Horror Story" is badass and debate which cast members are older and/or hotter. Plus, Curtis calls in as usual!

"Paranormal Activity 3" is out and it's easily better than part 2, and Ted has a report from the L.A. VIP screening. Ted Bowls for Boobies at Universal Studios and meets some delightful horror starlets. "The Walking Dead" has a great second episode, but we're starting to question the intelligence of Rick Grimes. We agree that "HISSS" is even worse than "Hellraiser: Revelations." Cool Sausage reviews "Wrong Turn 4." Plus, Kitsune calls in from Japan, and we contemplate our own porno version of "Kill Bill."

Two More Short Films for Halloween Night Viewing: The Trick or Treater / Meet the Tweeds

Posted by The Woman In Black on October 31, 2011

Two More Short Films for Halloween Night Viewing: The Trick or Treater / Meet the TweedsAs Halloween draws to a close for one more year, we here at Dread Central have two more seasonal short films to share with you: Eric England's The Trick or Treater and Erin Stegeman's Meet the Tweeds, both of which are co-produced by Ace Marrero along with each respective director.

Ace co-stars in The Trick or Treater with Katie Stegeman (he also appears in England's Madison County, which just premiered at the recently concluded Screamfest LA film festival). Bradley Scott Sullivan edited and did the short's titles and sound work.

The Trick or Treater features Marrero as a man who gets tricked when he doesn't deliver his treats.

Ace explained to us that the original plan was to produce three shorts for Halloween to help celebrate one of his favorite times of the year, but Screamfest demanded so much attention they could only make the two.

Meet the Tweeds is a sneak peek into the world of the Tweeds, an upper-class, suburban family, and their peculiar rituals on All Hallow's Eve. It stars Alan Pietruszewski, Sharon Elliott, Brooke J. Ferrell, Katie Cofield, Richie Million Jr., Desiree Cooper, and Taaryn Cooper. The crew includes Director of Photography: Daniel F. Dunn; Editor: Luke Guidici; and Composer: William Seegers.

Silent Hill: Revelation Gets a Composer

Posted by Uncle Creepy on October 31, 2011

Ask any fan of the Silent Hill video game franchise what one of the single most important aspects of the experience is, and we can pretty much guarantee you that the score makes everyone's top 5 mentions. It really does play a key part in enjoying all that the spooky town has to offer, and now news has come detailing who will be handling the music for the next adaptation of the foggy property!

According to director Michael J. Bassett's Blog, "Jeff Danna along with Akira Yamaoka will be composing the score for Silent Hill: Revelation. Still a few details to be ironed out but I’m confident that nothing stands in the way. I’m really pleased it’s the same team as the first movie as I thought that was a damn fine score. Obviously Akira is one of the greatest game sound designers and composers and he’s a fundamental part of what made Silent Hill the greatest series of survival horror games ever created. Jeff is a hugely gifted composer who has immersed himself in the Silent Hill universe so knows how to bring it all together for cinematic purposes. Together they’re going to blow us all away. Quite how they’re going to work is yet to be decided but I’m raring to get into this part of the process to start hearing what they come up with."

Pretty neat! Michael J. Bassett directs the sequel that stars Adelaide Clemens, Kit Harington, Sean Bean, Radha Mitchell, Deborah Kara Unger, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Malcolm McDowell.

Look for it in 2012 from Lionsgate.

AFM 2011: Stare Down the First 13 Eerie Art!

Posted by Uncle Creepy on October 31, 2011

The latest bit of artwork for 13 Eerie has made it to our inbox just in time for Halloween and AFM, and it's ready to engage you in a staring contest for the ages! Bet you blink first!

    From the Press Release
An epic battle of the undead is under way in the Canadian prairie province of Saskatchewan. Production on the feature length zombie flick 13 EERIE began earlier this week in Moose Jaw, Canada.

Six ambitious forensic undergrads are marooned on a remote island during a university field project. Unbeknownst to the group, the site was formerly used as an illegal biological testing ground for life-term criminals left for dead. But they aren't. They're undead.

The living cast includes Katharine Isabelle (Ginger Snaps) in the role of Megan, Michael Shanks (Stargate, Burn Notice, Smallville) in the role of Professor Tomkins, Brendan Fletcher (The Pacific, Freddy vs Jason) cast as Josh and Nick Moran (Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels) plays Larry.

Brendan Fehr (Bones, CSI: Miami) puts his CSI forensic skills to use as Daniel, an undergraduate criminal sciences student.

While the zombies themselves are a tightly guarded secret, producers will admit the film applies a unique interpretation to the traditional zombie genre.

"While you may have seen a zombie movie before, you haven't seen zombies quite like this," said producer Kevin Dewalt. "Audiences will want to avoid dimly lit pathways on their way home from the theatre after seeing 13 Eerie. This isn't your everyday reanimated corpse," added producer Don Carmody.

The film is an Ontario/Saskatchewan interprovincial co-production produced by Don Carmody Productions and Minds Eye Entertainment. Kevin Dewalt (The Tall Man, Faces in the Crowd), Don Carmody (Chicago, Silent Hill, Resident Evil) and Mark Montague (The Tall Man, Faces in the Crowd) are producing. Roger Christian (Bandido, Underworld) is an executive producer.

13 Eerie is the feature length debut for director Lowell Dean, a self-professed zombie aficionado and was written by Christian Piers Betley, whose thriller Dark Hearts is currently in post-production.

AFM 2011: The Ghostmaker: New Behind-The-Scenes Stills

Posted by Uncle Creepy on October 31, 2011

A few days after debuting the new teaser art for The Ghostmaker (formerly Box of Shadows), the powers-that-be sent us over a bunch of behind-the-scene imagery for you guys to check out. Dig it!

    From the Press Release
The wait is finally over. With 300 visual effects now completed for THE GHOSTMAKER (formerly BOX OF SHADOWS), the movie is going to be unveiled at the American Film Market courtesy of Spotlight Pictures.

“Spotlight is a great fit for us,” said director Mauro Boirrelli. “They are loaded with incredible enthusiasm for what we created and have a really good understanding of how to market the picture to the world at large. Just look at the new poster they put together to launch their marketing campaign. It completely captures the spirit of the movie, and we’re totally thrilled to have them onboard.”

“From the first scene of THE GHOSTMAKER, I was hooked,” said Scott Bedno, President of International at Spotlight Pictures. “Mauro and Ed had a vision for the film and executed it perfectly. I can’t wait to introduce the film to my buyers at AFM.”

Borrelli is also well known for his concept work on films such as THE ADVENTURES OF BARON MUNCHAUSEN, THE LEGEND OF SLEEPY HOLLOW, BRAM STOKER’S DRACULA, THE WOLFMAN, and CAPTAIN AMERICA.

When we started production on THE GHOSTMAKER,” producer Ed Polgardy added, “we didn’t realize how quickly the movie would take on a life of its own and grow from a little genre picture into a visual smorgasbord. The strong visual concepts in the movie just inspired us to push even harder to give the movie the look and feel of a bigger budgeted picture. And we’re really, really ecstatic about the final result.

The producing team for THE GHOSTMAKER includes Polgardy (LAID TO REST, DARK HOUSE), film festival veteran Scott Rudolph, Alfredo Gilardini, Gabriella Stollenwerck (DEAD END, BIG NOTHING), and Domiziano Arcangeli (BLACK DEMONS, H1N1: VIRUS X).

A revamped trailer for the movie is about to debut on the Spotlight Pictures website just before the American Film Market begins.

“We’ll let everyone know when the trailer goes up online,” Borrelli continued. “We’re really looking forward to showing everybody what we’ve been up to.”

Chillerama: Zom-B-Movie Gets its Groove On!

Posted by Uncle Creepy on October 31, 2011

BuySoundtrax Records has announced the November release of the Chillerama: Zom-B-Movie – Original Soundtrack featuring music by Bear McCreary ("The Walking Dead", Knights of Badassdom) with the new track “I Don’t Want to Die a Virgin” by Young Beautiful in a Hurry.

In addition to McCreary’s score for Zom-B-Movie, the soundtrack features the score to the newly rediscovered classic Deathication from director Fernando Phagbeefy. The first 100 people to order the recording at BuySoundTrax.com will receive a copy autographed by Bear McCreary, Brendan McCreary (Young Beautiful in a Hurry) and Zom-B-Movie director Joe Lynch.

In the spirit of classic anthology films like Creepshow and Twilight Zone: The Movie and containing films that celebrate the golden age of anatrichilia, Chillerama spans over four decades of cinematic excellence, offering viewers a glimpse into the joy of the late-night feature. The Zom-B-Movie segment was directed by Joe Lynch (Wrong Turn 2, Knights of Badassdom) and stars Richard Riehle ("Office Space") and Brendan McCreary (the band Young Beautiful In A Hurry).

Zom-B-Movie presented Bear with the opportunity to expand his musical horizon into the sounds he grew up with. “Joe’s short film required a wide swath of musical styles,” he described. Some of his inspirations for this opus included Bernard Herrmann, Lalo Schifrin, and Jerry Goldsmith.

Also part of the Chillerama pantheon is the newly rediscovered nearly 40-year-old classic Deathication from director Fernando Phagbeefy. The influence of the great Kurosawa is evident in Deathication with Phagabeefy's use of epic images and creation of heroic characters with a strong sense of honor and duty.

Said Phagabeefy, “I wanted to harness those pungent emotions onto celluloid, and with the help of talented (f)artists like our composer [and McCreary’s long lost uncle] Sir Lion Magillicutty, in my opinion we created a true film for the ages, a fine wheel of fragrant filmic cheese to sniff and savor like a fresh lawn log.

Because of the familial connection, Magillicutty’s music for Deathication is also featured on this recording. “With this newly re-mASStered version of the score Lion produced available to the general pubic, I hope the film turtle-heads its way back into poopularity,” said Phagabeefy.

Chillerama: Zom-B-Movie also gave Bear the opportunity to expand into two new areas: acting and directing. Bear directed a special music video for the film's closing credits, for the single "I Don't Want to Die a Virgin" by Young Beautiful in a Hurry. Dig on that below.

Bear also makes a cameo as a deranged painter who uses an unorthodox medium for his work. To prepare for his role, McCreary took method acting classes and watched hours of Bob Ross on PBS. Said McCreary, "Well let's just say it wasn't the first time I flung shit on paper in order to see what stuck."

Chillerama will be available on DVD or Blu-Ray on November 29, 2011. Chillerama: Zom-B-Movie Original Soundtrack will be available digitally, in stores, and directly from BuySoundtrax in mid-November, 2011.
