“Guns” is the theme song to a film of the same name about Playboy Playmates battling international terrorists. Cynthia Brimhall's measurements are listed as 36-25-36 so it is safe to say everything about this weekend's B-Sides is truly "B" except for her bra size.

The late, great Andy Sidaris made quite a name for himself producing a string of drive-in caliber direct-to-video T&A action flicks starring scantily-clad starlets and brawny beefcakes engaging in all-manner of crime fighting, counter-terrorism, espionage, skinny-dipping, shower montages, and frequent horizontal mamboing. The movies boasted titles like Hard Ticket to Hawaii, Fit to Kill, and Hard Hunted. Sidaris' films were like "Charlie's Angels" taken to their logical R-rated conclusion with casts top-loaded with ex-Playboy Playmates.

Actress, singer, and October 1985 Playboy Playmate of the Month Cynthia Brimhall appeared in five of Sidaris' flicks as half-naked Vegas nightclub singer/secret agent Edy Stark and performed songs for several.

Such was the case with 1990’s Guns, in which glamorous government agents masquerading as Hawaiian hard bodies and Las Vegas nightclub performers did battle with a dangerous South American gunrunner known as "Jack of Diamonds", played by Erik Estrada at his Estrada-est.

Guns opens with the lovely Miss Brimhall on stage in skimpy lingerie performing a song bearing the same name as the film. As I suspect to be the case with most of the men in the audience in the scene and the majority of those viewing the film, I couldn't judge Brimhall's singing because that's not what has my attention. She's certainly got big guns.

UK lovers of all things cult cinema would do well to mark May 24–26 on their calendars as the Cine-Excess International Film Festival and Conference returns for a sixth year of screenings and discussion regarding all things pulp and cult.

Events will take place at London’s Odeon Cinema, Covent Garden, and The Italian Cultural Institute. To give an idea of the goodies and guests in store, the folks behind the festival have also released a tantalising trailer to which we have the key...

About Cine-Excess:
Cine-Excess VI is an annual international film festival and conference which attracts global filmmakers, scholars, distributors, and exhibitors to an event which features filmmaker discussions, a themed 3-day conference, and 5 to 7 UK theatrical premieres/exclusive screenings. Cine-Excess is open to the public, who can book either screening delegate passes for individual films or full delegate passes for the conference, lunches, and all Cine-Excess screenings.

Cine-Excess VI focuses on global adaptations of cult narratives, genres, themes, and icons across a broad range of media and fiction formats. From pulp novels into pulp horror films and recent big budget blockbuster remakes of marginal midnight movies to nationally defined interpretations of the pre-established extreme, the cult image remains a fascinating index of adaptation, whose wide array of remakes, renditions, and realisations frequently reveals fascinating issues of nation and narrative as well cultural, regional, and historical distinction.

This year's special guests include directors Enzo G. Castellari (Inglourious Basterds, Bronx Warriors) and Sergio Martino (Torso, Your Vice Is a Locked Door and Only I Have the Key), and there will be screenings of the aforementioned Bronx Warriors, Keoma, All the Colours of the Dark, the premiere of Julian Richards’ (The Last Horror Movie) new film Shiver and much, much more.

For the full bevy of details and booking information, check out the official Cine-Excess website.

It isn't often we get to feature a Canadian b-movie from the 1970's here on the site, but thanks to Trembles, that's exactly what's on tap in this week's Motion Picture Purgatory. Feast your eyes on Sexcula, a 1974 slice of Canuxploitation from director John Holbrook.

The film stars Debbie Collins as Countess Sexcula and Jamie Orlando as Dr. Fallatingstein. John Alexander, Tim Lowery, Bud Coal, and Marie McLeod co-star. There's not much info available on the film so we'll let Canuxploitation.com give a brief overview: Shot in Vancouver by one-time producer Clarence Neufeld and a cast of unknown exhibitionists, the adult monster spoof Sexcula is not only an almost lost piece of undeniably sleazy Canadiana, it's also one of earliest monster movies made north of the border, a spoofy take-off on the Universal classic horror films.

The film's story unfurls like this: When a woman (Debbie Collins) arrives at a spooky old mansion owned by her ancestors, she and her boyfriend (David F. Hurry) find a dusty old diary that discusses the history of the house during the 18th century. As they enjoy a picnic on the mansion grounds, they read aloud from the diary about how Dr. Fallatingstein (Jamie Orlando) created a male monster in her basement lab named Frank (John Alexander), to help satisfy her sexual needs. But something goes wrong with her experiment—not only is Frank impotent, but he seems generally uninterested in pleasing his mistress. It seems the only one getting any action around the old dungeon is hunchback assistant Orgie (Tim Lowery), who keeps sneaking into the lab to have a go at a nude female pleasure robot (Marie McLeod) strapped to one of the slabs.

Season 7 of "Supernatural" is now at an end - and a very interesting end it was! - so let's turn our attention to Season 8, the first episode of which will be directed by series star Jensen Ackles. The only downside? He gets just a very brief break before heading back to work in Vancouver.

Ackles told Us Weekly during the The CW's recent Upfront in New York City, "We don't get a very long break -- it's about two and a half months. I actually have to go back early because I'm going to direct the first episode. My break is even a littler shorter, but we [he and wife Danneel Harris] try to make the most of it. It's not optimal, but as I always say, it's a good problem to have!"

As for any potential seasons after No. 8, Ackles is amenable. "As long as there's an audience, we're going to continue to keep telling stories. We're excited about it."

Considering what condition the Winchester brothers are in at the end of Season 7, all we can say is get back to work as soon as you can, Jensen. We need to know what happens next!

With his roadshow for The Devil's Carnival in the spotlight, we'd almost forgotten about Darren Bousman's The Barrens, but Voltage Pictures is in Cannes with it and has released a new poster for the film about a man who becomes convinced his family is being stalked by the Jersey Devil.

Fansite All Stephen Moyer (the "True Blood" star plays the lead in The Barrens) tracked down the poster for the flick, which co-stars Mia Kirshner ("The Vampire Diaries", 388 Arletta Avenue, The Black Dahlia), Erik Knudsen (Scream 4, Saw II), J Larose (Insidious, Saw III), Allie MacDonald (House at the End of the Street), Max Topplin (Dead Before Dawn 3D, "Fringe") and Peter DaCunha.

The legend of The Jersey Devil has been passed along for hundreds of years as the creature has risen from obscurity to take its place alongside the Loch Ness Monster, Big Foot, and the Chupacabra. The creature is deeply rooted in New Jersey culture; the local NHL team takes its name from the creature, and Bruce Springsteen put his own spin on the legend in "A Night with the Jersey Devil."

Synopsis
Despite their reluctance, Richard Marlow (Moyer) takes his wife, Cynthia (Kirshner); their young son, Danny; and his teenage daughter, Sadie, to the Pine Barrens for a long weekend of camping and family bonding. As they arrive at the Wharton State Forest, a mutilated deer runs out into the road, nearly colliding with the Marlows' car. Later that evening another bloodied animal falls from a tree. Bad turns to worse when, in the middle of the night, a college boy camping nearby disappears into the woods. Nevertheless, Richard presses the family to hike farther into the forest to the spot where he used to camp with his father. He is feverish, and a past wound on his arm appears badly infected, but when it begins to rain, there is no turning back. Richard's sickness soon becomes debilitating; his headaches turn to hallucinations. What's worse, he believes there is something stalking them...something with yellow eyes, pointed horns, and the wings of a bat - THE JERSEY DEVIL. The disfigured bodies of the missing camper and another college boy soon turn up. The Marlows must fight for their lives as the horrifying answer reveals itself in a shocking and tragic conclusion.

Even more so when news broke that Edgar Wright would be directing. Now we have a writer. Can the good news keep coming?

According to THR, D.V. DeVincentis (High Fidelity, Gross Pointe Blank) has been tapped to write Disney’s big-screen adaptation of The Night Stalker.

The project is based on the ABC television series "Kolchak: The Night Stalker", created by Jeff Rice and starring Darren McGavin. The show ran for only one season (1974-75) although it proved a hit in syndication.

The series centered on Carl Kolchak, a reporter for the Chicago-based Independent News Service Stories, who investigated bizarre crimes committed by supernatural agents. Depp is producing with Christi Dembrowski.

Look for more on this one as soon as we can get it!

"Beauty and the Beast" premieres Thursdays this fall on The CW, and the network has released an official promo trailer for the show to begin building some buzz for it. Check it out, and let us know what you think!

"BEAUTY AND THE BEAST" - Detective Catherine Chandler is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective. Several years earlier, Catherine witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen. Catherine would have been killed, too, but someone – or something – saved her. No one has ever believed her, but she knows it wasn’t an animal that attacked the assassins…it was human. Years have passed, and Catherine is a strong, confident, capable police officer, working alongside her equally talented partner, Tess. While investigating a murder, Catherine discovers a clue that leads her to a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller, who was reportedly killed by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in 2002. Catherine learns that Vincent is actually still alive and that it was he who saved her many years before. For mysterious reasons that have forced him to live outside of traditional society, Vincent has been in hiding for the past 10 years to guard his secret – when he is enraged, he becomes a terrifying beast, unable to control his super-strength and heightened senses. Catherine agrees to protect his identity in return for any insight he may have into her mother’s murder. Thus begins a complex relationship between Catherine and Vincent, who are powerfully drawn to each other yet understand that their connection is extremely dangerous for both of them.

The series stars Kristin Kreuk (“Smallville,” “Chuck”) as Catherine, Jay Ryan (“Terra Nova”) as Vincent, Max Brown (“The Tudors,” “MI-5”) as Evan, Nina Lisandrello (“Nurse Jackie”) as Tess, Nicole Gale Anderson (“Make It or Break It”) as Heather, Austin Basis (“Life Unexpected”) as J.T., and Brian White (“The Shield,” “The Cabin in the Woods”) as Joe.

"Beauty and the Beast" is from CBS Television Studios with executive producers Jennifer Levin (“Without A Trace,” “Felicity”), Sherri Cooper (“Brothers and Sisters”), Bill Haber (“Rizzoli & Isles,” “Thurgood”), Paul J. Witt (“A Better Life”) & Tony Thomas (“A Better Life”), Ron Koslow (“Moonlight”), and Gary Fleder (“Life Unexpected”).
