Archie vs. Predator Hardcover Coming Next Month

Posted by David Gelmini on October 29, 2015

This has got to be one of the strangest crossovers in recent memory. Archie and Predator. I mean, wow. Godzilla vs. King Kong has got nothing on this.

Yup, the innocent ginger-haired youth whose biggest fear was choosing between Betty and Veronica is now gonna have to deal with aliens who will stop at nothing to hunt the biggest and most dangerous prey that they can find, or die trying. Yeah. So why they’re in Riverdale is anyone’s guess. To be honest, though, with the Alien/Predator comics usually being grim and dry affairs, it is nice to finally have something that unwinds and doesn’t take itself seriously.

The hardcover edition collecting all four issues of the miniseries will be released on November 17 (pre-order here). In case you missed it before, here’s the synopsis:

America’s favorite teen meets the galaxy’s fiercest hunter! When Archie and friends hit Costa Rica for Spring Break, party games and beach games are soon replaced by the Most Dangerous Game! Lured by the challenge of Betty and Veronica’s unparalleled fierceness, a teenaged Predator from the stars follows the gang back to Riverdale, where it prepares for its most bizarre hunt ever, but will the kids even realize they’re in danger before they end up in the creature’s horrifying trophy case?!

Collecting Issues #1-#4 of the smash-hit Archie vs. Predator!

#SDCC 2013: First Afterlife with Archie Clip Rises from the Grave

Posted by Uncle Creepy on July 18, 2013

A few weeks back we heard about the new zombie-themed Archie comic headed our way, and on tap right now we have some brand new eye candy for you cats! Dig it!

Look for the comic in October!

It is dark in that the Archie gang is fighting for their lives and survival, and there is a body count,” says Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa to THR. “But if you think of the Evil Dead movies Sam Raimi did or even Peter Jackson’s zombie movie Dead Alive, there was always definitely a sense of humor about it. It wasn’t tongue-in-cheek or campy, but it was fun.”

The story begins with Jughead’s dog, Hot Dog, being run over with a car. Jughead brings the dog to Sabrina, the Teenage Witch, who, after much deliberation, brings the dog back to life. But Hot Dog is not the same sweet hound he was before, and he bites Jughead, infecting him with his virus.

On the night of the Halloween dance in Riverdale, the zombie apocalypse begins,” says Aguirre-Sacasa.

The trailer will be shown at Comic-Con on Saturday at the Archie panel. Aguirre-Sacasa will moderate the event, which features Archie Comics publisher/co-CEO Jon Goldwater, president Mike Pellerito, executive director of editorial Paul Kaminski, cartoonist Dan Parent (Kevin Keller), iVerse Media CEO Michael Murphey, and Gogii Games president George Donovan.

It’s also important to note that while Aguirre-Sacasa was also recently tapped to write the upcoming Warner Bros. live-action Archie film, it will not have any undead visiting Riverdale. “The Archie movie is a straight-up Archie movie. It’s much more of a teenage coming-of-age story,” he says, adding that he’s been working with director Jason Moore on outlining the story.

Archie Comics: The Hottest Publisher in the Industry panel takes place at noon on July 20 in Room 9.

Afterlife With Archie hits comic shops October 9th, 2013.

Exclusive Early Reveal of the Variant Cover for Afterlife with Archie

Posted by The Woman In Black on June 12, 2013

A few weeks back we heard about the new zombie-themed Archie comic headed our way, and now we have an exclusive early look at the variant artwork for Issue #1 by drawn by Tim Seeley.

Synopsis:
What if the zombie apocalypse began in Riverdale? This horror-infused comic answers that question when it kicks off in late 2013, spearheaded by one of Hollywood’s hottest writers, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who will be fresh off the high profile crossover Archie Meets Glee, along with Eisner-winning artist Francesco Francavilla .

AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE will provide readers with zombie-filled mayhem like only Archie can, taking the Riverdale gang where they’ve never been before – to the grave and back. Jughead’s beloved pooch Hotdog is run over by Reggie in his roadster. He convinces Sabrina to hatch a spell to bring back the pooch, but when Hotdog bites Jughead, he soon craves flesh.

In addition to his Archie credits, Aguirre-Sacasa has made a name for himself in the world of television (writer/producer on "Glee"), Broadway musicals (Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark), and movies, penning the remake of Stephen King’s Carrie, which premieres this fall.

“Roberto’s a superstar writer,” said Archie Co-CEO Jon Goldwater. “Working with him on the upcoming AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE is the next step in the ever expanding Archie universe.”

"AFTERLIFE WITH ARCHIE combines two of my great passions: Archie comics and horror comics,” said Aguirre-Sacasa. “This series came out of conversations with Jon [Goldwater], asking questions like, ‘What if the Archie characters found themselves in a Stephen King novel like The Stand or a Sam Raimi movie like The Evil Dead?’ Could we pull that off, tonally? We’re really going for it. The first arc is called ‘Escape from Riverdale.’ The second arc is called, brace yourself, ‘Betty RIP.’ Of course, all the horror stuff will be balanced by elements that are quintessentially Archie.”

Afterlife With Archie hits comic shops October 9th, 2013.

Even Riverdale Isn’t Safe from a Zombie Apocalypse! Afterlife with Archie Comic Book Is Coming!

Posted by Foywonder on March 6, 2013

No matter how much people complain the zombie craze has reached a saturation point, something comes along and you realize it still has yet to fully hit its zenith. Take for example Afterlife with Archie, an upcoming comic book in which Riverdale gets The Walking Dead treatment.

You just can’t make this stuff up anymore. Archie, Betty, Veronica, Jughead, and the rest of the Riverdale kids will be forced to contend with zombies in a new comic book series launching later this year. It sounds like the basis for a Teefury mash-up shirt, doesn’t it? Nope. This is actually happening, and here’s how:

Jughead’s beloved pooch Hotdog is run over by Reggie in his roadster. He convinces Sabrina to hatch a spell to bring back the pooch, but when Hotdog bites Jughead, he soon craves flesh.

Deadline reportsAfterlife with Archie will be scripted by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. He seems to be the perfect scribe for the job as he has experience writing about teenage life, having worked on “Glee”. He also has experience with teen horror, having penned the screenplay for the upcoming Carrie remake. And he know a little something about trying to make the best out of a potentially ill-conceived idea, having been the fix-it man brought in to try to salvage the initially disastrous Broadway musical Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.

Aguirre-Sacasa told Deadline that this comic book “combines two of my great passions, Archie comics and horror comics. This series came out of conversations with Jon Goldwater, asking questions like 'What if the Archie characters found themselves in a Stephen King novel like The Stand or a Sam Raimi movie like The Evil Dead? Could we pull that off, tonally?' We’re really going for it. The first arc is called Escape from Riverdale. The second arc is called, brace yourself, Betty RIP.”

We’re also told to expect the gore aspect to be combined with elements that are “quintessentially Archie”.

Why do I have a weird feeling that if this comic book is successful within six months of publication I’m going to find myself writing a story about how Timur Bekmambetov and Tim Burton have optioned the movie rights?

I personally hope that Afterlife with Archie expands its universe to also include other old timey comic book characters that would fit in amongst the zombie apocalypse. Like have Casper, the Friendly Ghost guiding the Riverdale kids to safety in a world now overrun by the undead. Dennis the Menace shows up as their version of “The Governor,” armed with a lethal slingshot and with the head of Mr. Wilson in a jar that he still talks to. Do a story arc where they hide out in Richie Rich’s panic room, but that goes bad when the world’s richest boy decides he doesn’t want to die a virgin and develops an unhealthy obsession with Veronica. Have the storyline conclude with the reveal that Sabrina deliberately unleashed hell on earth because she’s now the mistress of Hot Stuff. I mean, Hot Stuff is a little boy devil; he’s bound to go evil at some point.
