E3 2017: Destiny 2 Looks Just as Epic as You’d Expect

Posted by David Gelmini on June 15, 2017

With Destiny 2 being one the biggest games of 2017 by far, the E3 trailer for Activision’s sci-fi shooter was just as epic as you’d expect.

Destiny 2 will once again feature the fast-paced online multiplayer action that made the original game such a gigantic success, and best of all, developer Bungie will once again include a story-driven campaign. It will be released on Xbox One and PS4 on September 6 2017, and unlike its predecessor, it will also be coming to PC on October 24. Pre-order here.

If you’re not ready to upgrade to Destiny 2 just yet, rest assured that Activision will be keeping the servers for the original Destiny online for the foreseeable future. Seeing as the combined marketing and production budgets of the original 2014 game came to an estimated combined total of an enormous $500 million, so I guess they’re gonna want to make as much money from it as possible before it goes offline.

Destiny 2 Gameplay Revealed in Addition to Loads of New Features

Posted by Jonathan Barkan on May 18, 2017

Today there was a livestream presentation for Destiny 2, the sequel to Bungie and Activision Publishing’s 2014 multiplayer FPS game Destiny. Fans from around the world were able to tune in to see what new features the game was going to bring to make it a bigger, better, and more exciting experience over its predecessor. Turns out Bungie wasn’t going to leave them hanging and has revealed a TON of new content as well as making the announcement that the game will be the first third-party title to run on Battle.net, Blizzard’s online gaming service.

Check it out:
A key announcement during the livestream was about a new feature called, “Guided Games,” that makes it easy for all players to experience the most challenging and rewarding activities the game has to offer. This new feature allows solo players to find and play with other players to enjoy Destiny 2 and earn new in-game rewards like weapons, and armor.

Also available for attendees was “Countdown,” an all-new competitive multiplayer mode as well as a three-player cooperative activity on a new map called, “Inverted Spire.”

Synopsis:
In the story of Destiny 2, the last safe city on Earth has fallen and lay in ruins, occupied by a powerful new enemy and his elite army, the Red Legion. Every player creates their own character called a “Guardian,” humanity’s chosen protectors. As a Guardian in Destiny 2, players must master new abilities and weapons to reunite the city’s forces, stand together and fight back to reclaim their home.

Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision, states:

Destiny established a blockbuster, new franchise and a massive global community of amazingly passionate fans. And today, we are giving people their first look at the gameplay of Destiny 2. Destiny 2 has a great story, an iconic new villain, awesome characters you want to go on an epic adventure with, and of course, tons of the amazing gameplay that Destiny is known for. We, along with our partners at Bungie, have listened carefully to our community, and have added thoughtful innovations that make the game, and all of its content, more accessible to more types of players than ever before.

Bungie CEO Pete Parsons adds, “This is a defining moment for our studio, and we couldn’t have done it without the continued support of our partners in Activision, Sony and now Blizzard.” He added, “We have an amazing community of players who have been with us on this journey, but with the sequel, the team are paying close attention to welcoming new and returning Guardians to the universe with something for every type of gamer, including gameplay for solo, cooperative and competitive players with new places to explore and adventures to conquer.

As Destiny fans, we were excited to learn that the sequel was coming to PC,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We’re pleased to support Destiny 2 as the first non-Blizzard game on our platform, and we look forward to joining fellow Guardians in their fight against the Red Legion.

Destiny 2 comes to consoles and PC on September 8th.

    From the Press Release
Today, Activision Publishing, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), together with critically-acclaimed developer Bungie, revealed the first sneak peak of their partnership. The game, called Destiny, is an ambitious evolution of the first-person action genre that brings gamers together in a shared, persistent world. The result of a large-scale collaboration between Activision, the publisher of such mega franchises as Call of Duty, Skylanders Spyro's Adventure and Skylanders Giants, and Bungie, the creators of Halo®, Destiny is poised to become the next advancement in interactive entertainment by melding first-person action gaming with a persistent, dynamic online world.

"Bungie defined first-person action games over a decade ago with Halo, and with Destiny they will evolve the genre once again," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO of Activision Publishing. "Destiny is a world that evolves. It is a world with wide boundaries that allows you to roam and explore. It is a world where, even in story mode, you could encounter other players on their own adventures. And of course, it is a world that brings all of this together with the visceral, heart pounding immediacy of an expertly crafted first-person action title. We are very excited to bring this ambitious, innovative and creative game to players around the world."

"Activision focuses on doing a few things, exceptionally well. And Bungie has had the same ethos," Hirshberg continued. "Together we are focusing the considerable resources, creativity and energy of both organizations to do something new, something ambitious, but most importantly, something fun."
