New Teaser Released for Ash vs. Evil Dead

Posted by Debi Moore on May 29, 2015

Starz has released a new teaser for the 10-episode first season of the half-hour series “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” and of course you can check it out right here, right now!  We also have word straight from Bruce Campbell that “Ash vs. Evil Dead” will be making an appearance at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con!

The series is executive produced by Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert, and Bruce Campbell, the original filmmakers of the franchise, and Craig DiGregorio, who serves as executive producer and showrunner.  “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” which is currently in production in New Zealand, is the long-awaited follow-up to the classic horror film franchise The Evil Dead and is set to premiere on Starz in the fall of 2015.

Campbell is reprising his role as Ash, the stock boy, aging lothario, and chainsaw-handed monster hunter who has spent the last 30 years avoiding responsibility, maturity, and the terrors of the Evil Dead.  When a Deadite plague threatens to destroy all of mankind, Ash is finally forced to face his demons – personal and literal.  Destiny, it turns out, has no plans to release the unlikely hero from its “Evil” grip.

The cast is led by Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) in the role of Ash Williams; Lucy Lawless (“Salem,” “Spartacus”) as Ruby, a mysterious figure who believes Ash is the cause of the Evil outbreaks; Ray Santiago (“Touch,” Meet the Fockers) as Pablo Simon Bolivar, an idealistic immigrant who becomes Ash’s loyal sidekick; Dana DeLorenzo (A Very Harold & Kumar 3D Christmas) as Kelly Maxwell, a moody wild child trying to outrun her past; and Jill Marie Jones (“Sleepy Hollow”) as Amanda Fisher, a disgraced Michigan State Trooper set to find our anti-hero Ash and prove his responsibility in the grisly murder of her partner.

Raimi is directing the first episode of “Ash vs. Evil Dead,” which he wrote with Ivan Raimi (Darkman, Army of Darkness, Drag Me to Hell) and Tom Spezialy (“Chuck,” “Reaper,” “Desperate Housewives”). Raimi also serves as executive producer with Rob Tapert (Evil Dead, “Spartacus,” Xena: Warrior Princess”) and Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead, “Burn Notice”) along with Craig DiGregorio (“Workaholics,” “Chuck”), who is executive producer/showrunner. Ivan Raimi co-executive produces and Aaron Lam (“Spartacus”) and Chloe Smith (“Spartacus”) serve as producers.

Sam Raimi Muses on the Evil Dead Phenomenon

Posted by Uncle Creepy on March 5, 2013

Sam Raimi Muses on the Evil Dead PhenomenonNow that we're a few days removed from Sam Raimi giving in to pressure and saying that he'll be writing a fourth Evil Dead film over the summer with his brother, Ivan, Raimi has shared his view on the franchise's undying popularity.

Vulture recently caught up with Raimi and asked if it "was flattering to realize that this small film [he] made in 1981 still commands such a loyal following." Raimi's answer? "I don't look at it that way. Rather, I look at it as, 'What a sorry state the world is in that it has come to this!' [Laughs.] The lowest-budget, B-movie, drive-in picture is elevated to this status? That's really how I look at it!"

While that's an amusing view, it's also kind of troublesome. Please, Sam, if you don't have the passion for it, don't make an Evil Dead 4 right now. No one wants to see a movie that you're making out of obligation and pressure instead of love. We went down that road with Spider-Man 3, and we need not travel it again.

Sam Raimi Talks More Evil Dead 4

Posted by Uncle Creepy on March 3, 2013

Sam Raimi Talks More Evil Dead 4It's amazing how quickly we can go from absolutely joyous to head-hangingly depressed. Joy and pain. Sunshine and rain. Godzilla 1954 and Godzilla 1998. Read on for the latest from Sam Raimi on Evil Dead 4 and then cringe.

As per Bleeding Cool: "I would like to work on the script over the summer," Raimi explains. "That much is true. But the reason to come back and do it again is only that they’re making me, those fans... I am thinking about it, but a crowd goes 'Come on Sam, do it!' so I said 'Okay, I guess I was talking to my brother about it.' But I feel like I was pushed into saying that, a little bit."

Raimi continues, "I was saying to Ivan 'Why do they stay on this thing? Why do they keep at it?' and he said 'They want you to make a movie. You’re a filmmaker and your fans are asking you to make the movie. What are you, an idiot? Make the movie!' I guess there’s something I don’t see. It makes sense when Ivan says it… I didn’t have a tremendous amount of passion until right now to bring to it."

Make of all that what you will. To us it sounds more like he'd like to make the movie, but it isn't the sure thing we were led to believe previously. So yeah, about all that Ghostbusters 3 news...
